Bloomsburg University Announces New Name for College of Business

On Friday, Nov. 4, 2016, Bloomsburg University’s College of Business became the Terry and JoAnn Zeigler College of Business. Terry Zeigler ’76, president and CEO of Datacap Systems Inc., Chalfont, PA; his wife, JoAnn Schultz Zeigler ’77; and Zeigler Family Foundation collectively contributed the largest philanthropic gift to the Bloomsburg University Foundation to name the university's College of Business, which is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

The combination of an outright $5 million gift, endowed to provide immediate support, and a deferred gift from Zeigler Family Foundation, to strengthen the College of Business, is one of the largest gifts from an individual donor in the history of Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education.

“This is a landmark event in the history of both Bloomsburg University and the College of Business,” said BU President David Soltz. “Terry and JoAnn’s continued support of our university and our students is truly inspirational. In naming the Zeigler College of Business, their legacy of philanthropy will be recognized forever.”

Erik Evans, BU’s vice president of University Advancement, said the Zeiglers’ latest gift demonstrates their continuing investment in improving opportunities for BU students, both as volunteers and donors.

“Terry and JoAnn have an unmistakable passion for continuing the success of the College of Business at Bloomsburg University,” Evans said. “They have played a key role from the start in our It’s Personal campaign. This gift exemplifies their commitment to student preparation and their willingness to share the winning business strategies that led to their success.”

BU’s College of Business first attained accreditation by AACSB International – the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business – in 2005 and, today, is among 775 business schools worldwide to achieve the designation. Jeffrey Krug, dean of the College of Business, said that naming the college builds upon its strong reputation, enhances BU’s focus on student success and helps to recruit and retain outstanding faculty.

“This will enable our College of Business to increase our graduates’ marketability by providing them with improved access to entrepreneurial programs and practical experiential learning opportunities,” Krug said. “It will help us to get students on a relevant and personal career path as soon as they arrive at BU.”

In 2011, the Zeiglers established BU’s Zeigler Institute for Professional Development to provide networking opportunities and the real-world experiences and skills students need for success in the job market. Terry Zeigler has served as a member of the BU Foundation Board since 2011 and the It’s Personal Campaign Cabinet since 2014.

“It was important for us to help to make Bloomsburg students’ educations remain relevant as they prepare to enter the workforce in an increasingly competitive marketplace,” Terry Zeigler said. “In today’s world, it’s critical to understand how all areas of business are interconnected. Our hope is to help provide students with access to opportunities that will give them a thorough understanding of how each function works together, giving them the skills that will allow them to adapt and remain successful in an ever-changing business environment.”
